Ford Expedition Wiki
A full-size SUV built by the American company Ford. Replaced the Ford Bronco in 1996 and took the place between the smaller Ford Explorer and the larger Ford Excursion (replaced in 2005). There are 4 generations of the model: the first existed from 1997 to 2002; 2nd from 2003 to 2006; The 3rd is from 2007 to 2017, and the 4th is valid from 2017. There is also an extended version of Max or EL. The Lincoln Navigator is based on the Ford Expedition.
First generation (1996-2002)
At the end of 1996, the first generation Ford Expedition (factory index UN93) with a three-row body with 9 seats was introduced. The car is built on the frame platform of the Ford U together with the first generation Lincoln Navigator. From the outside, the car was similar to the ninth-generation Ford F-150. It was designed to replace the outdated two-door model Ford Bronco. The model had problems with wiring and 10 years later received a great response to solve the problem.
In 1999, the Ford Expedition was upgraded, changing the appearance and equipment. During the restyling, the model received a longer wheelbase (2 cm), elongated body (50 cm), and the engines became more powerful: 4.6 liters began to produce 230 horsepower, and 5.4 liters - 260 hp. There is also a new 4-speed automatic transmission.
Second generation (2003-2006)
At the end of 2002, the second generation Ford Expedition appeared (factory index U222). The car received a rear independent suspension. The steering, braking system and electronic systems have been revised. Expedition was nominated for the title of best SUV in 2003 and won the nomination "Family Car" for a spacious interior.
Initially, the car was fitted with first-generation engines, but in 2005 the car received a new 5.4-liter V8 engine with adjustable timing phases with a capacity of 300 hp. This engine was only offered with a four-speed automatic transmission. The restyling model received a system of rollover avoidance (Roll Stability Control) and tire pressure sensors.
Third generation (2007-2017)
At the Houston Motor Show in 2006, Ford introduced the third generation Expedition (index U324). In the spring of 2007 the car appeared on the market.
The car received an engine from the previous model, but with a new 6-speed automatic transmission. The car was named the most profitable for more than 5 years of operation among large SUVs, as well as the highest quality large SUV. In addition, the car was nominated for the title of Car of the Year in North America, took second place in the ranking of the most reliable full-size SUV and was named the best SUV of 2015 in the ranking of J.D. Power and Associates.
In 2009, the engine was overhauled to meet the needs of environmentally friendly vehicles.
Since 2007, an extended version of the EL has been offered, closing the gap that emerged with the cessation of Ford Excursion sales in 2006. Expedition EL is 38 cm longer than the usual Ford Expedition. Technically, this version is identical to the regular model.
In Canada and Mexico, the model is called Expedition Max.
Fourth generation (2017-)
The day before the Chicago Motor Show on February 7, 2017, the fourth-generation Ford Expedition debuted (U553 index). Serial production began on September 25, 2017, and the car went on sale in November of that year. The car is built on a new T3 platform with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 gasoline engine, paired with a 10-speed. Automatic 10R80 SelectShift. The car received an aluminum body and a frame made of high-strength steel and an independent suspension of all wheels. There is a choice of regular and extended body (Max), rear or all-wheel drive with lowered gearbox. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 6.5 s and top speed is 200 km / h.
Ford Expedition 2017 comes in four variations: base XLT, Limited, King Ranch and top Platinum. At the minimum cost of Expedition XLT 2017, the driver will receive a driver's seat with electric adjustment in 6 positions, electrically adjustable pedals, leather steering wheel, rear view camera and rear parking sensors, as well as AM / FM / CD audio system with 6 speakers, wireless Bluetooth and USB port. In 2020, Ford added to the standard equipment Expedition driver assistance system Co-Pilot 360. The automaker has expanded a number of configurations of the model with a luxurious version of the King Ranch
