Ford Escape Wiki
Ford Escape is a compact crossover of the Ford concern.
First generation (2000-2007)
The first-generation Ford Escape hit the assembly line in Ohio in 2000. For the specialists of the Ford Motor Group, this was a serious job - the car was developed with a view, including to the European market, where it was named Ford Maverick. It is based on a retaining body and a new Ford CD2 platform. Length - 4394 mm, width and height - 1781 and 1755 mm, respectively. McPherson struts with separate springs and shock absorbers were installed in the front, and a multi-link lever with a steering effect was installed at the rear, which Fords were especially proud of at the time. Engineers mounted the rail steering mechanism on the reinforced crossbar of the body, which promised increased accuracy when working with the steering wheel. During the entire production period, the "first" Escape was fitted with three naturally aspirated engines - the 2.0-liter Zetec (127 hp in the American specification), the Duratec 2.3 (153 hp) and the Duratec V6 3.0 (200 hp). . Depending on the unit, the car was equipped with a five-speed "mechanics" or a four-band "automatic". Buyers were also offered cars with different transmissions - front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The latter was organized using two propeller shafts and a multi-disc clutch Rotary Blade Coupling of the Japanese company Toyoda. Automatic locking was done by hydraulics, and forced - by an electromagnetic clutch. There was also a hybrid modification of the crossover with a 155-horsepower power plant and nickel-metal hydride batteries. It is also worth noting that Ford Escape has repeatedly responded to Ford to eliminate factory defects. The largest campaign was the recall of 500,000 cars produced from 2001 to 2004, due to the risk of engine fire. But this did not prevent the commercial success of the model - from 2000 to 2007 in the United States alone sold nearly 1.2 million five-door. But the car was produced in Japan, China and Taiwan.
The Ford Escape Hybrid used a hybrid system (a 2.3-liter 133 hp Atkinson-cycle petrol engine and a 95-hp synchronous electric motor with 330-volt nickel-metal hydride batteries) developed by Japanese company Toyota for its Prius , and upgraded by Ford specialists.
Second generation (2008-2012)
The debut of the second generation car took place at the Los Angeles Motor Show in 2007. In the same year, production began, but at the plant in Missouri. The novelty of that time was rather the result of a deep modernization of its predecessor. The Ford CD2 platform remained in service. Wheelbase - the same 2619 mm. The car became longer (4437 mm) and wider (1806 mm), but lower (1720 mm) than its predecessor. Engineers readjusted the chassis, used an electric booster in the steering. For the first two years, the Escape was produced with the former 2.3-liter "four", which was later replaced by the 2.5-liter "four" (171 hp, 232 Nm). And the three-liter V6 Duratec was seriously upgraded, which increased its efficiency to 240 hp. and 316 Nm. The five-speed manual transmission did not go anywhere, and the four-speed automatic gave way to the six-speed unit. In addition, you could buy a hybrid version (total return of the installation - 177 forces), and distorted machines called Escape for the markets of Southeast Asia and Russia. "Second" Escape survives on the assembly line in recent weeks, from 2008 to 2010 in the States bought more than 520 thousand crossovers. The base car costs $ 21,440.
There is a version of Hybrid and Plug-in hybrid (recharged from the socket).
Third generation (2012-2019)
The third generation Ford Escape debuted on November 16, 2011. Sales started in the spring of 2012. In Europe, the car is sold under the name Ford Kuga second generation.
On November 18, 2015, Ford introduced the updated Escape, which went on sale in early 2016. The update added a new front panel inspired by the Edge, while replacing the rear, which now has modified LED taillights and the recently adopted double-leaf, hexagonal grille. The interior has also been slightly adjusted in the cabin and steering wheel.
The Sync 3 infotainment system has been added as a new feature, as well as a new smartphone app called Sync Connect that allows owners to remotely monitor their car, check fuel levels, lock and unlock doors and start the engine. A new 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged version with 179 hp has joined the 2.5 and 2.0 EcoBoost engine lines. (133 kW), which replaced the 1.6-liter.
Ford Escape has been comprehensively updated for the 2017 model year. The more refined exterior resonates with the improved and technologically advanced interior. In addition, the buyer receives EcoBoost engines and a significant number of active auxiliary systems. The structure of the crossover has not changed, but Escape 2017 looks more attractive. Full of contrasting elements, the exterior turned out to be extremely integral and harmonious. The elongated lines of the nose are softened by the rounded front bumper. The hexagonal radiator grille hides the assetno shutters. Slanted LED headlights and enlarged air intakes emphasize the charisma of the Escape. At the back you can see the new embossing of the luggage compartment and LED headlights. And the affordable Sport Appearance package will add dimmed accents, halogen headlights and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The crossover is presented in S, SE and Titanium complete sets. The base S comes with a telescopic steering column, electric window and mirror function, central locking with keychain, rear view camera, Advance Trac, Roll Stability Control and Torque Vectoring Control. Model SE will add: dual-zone climate control, steering wheel petals and electric driver's seat. The top-of-the-line Titanium boasts leather upholstery, electric front seats, a premium Sony 10-speaker audio system, Sync 3 infotainment system with Sync Connect, push-button start, rear seat socket and luggage compartment lid opening function

And only the height is now less than 20 mm (1669 mm). The body has become 10% stiffer, but the optimization of the design has reduced the weight of the car by 90 kg, if you compare the versions with comparable power units.
